Affordable Bookkeeping Software for Small Business: 2026 Prices Compared

By Vivian London, London's Tax Services | 10/28/2026

Cheap bookkeeping software is easy to find. Cheap bookkeeping software that still works when tax time comes is harder. Most low-cost plans look similar on the pricing page and very different once you hit an invoice cap, need a bank feed, or realize nobody told you how much to save for taxes.

The short answer: For most new small businesses, the cheapest options are Wave Starter (free) and Zoho Books Free (if revenue is under $50,000). Paid plans run about $19 to $38 a month: Wave Pro, Zoho Books Standard, FreshBooks Lite, Xero Early and QuickBooks Simple Start. BIB Pro costs $29.99 a month and adds what the apps do not: a running tax set-aside number and quarterly check-ins with a tax team.

Where BIB Pro is different

BIB Pro (Bookkeeper In A Box Pro) is an online bookkeeping portal from London's Tax Services, a tax firm in White Plains, NY. It is not trying to be QuickBooks. It is built for owners who want a simple system and a tax safety net:

If you need invoicing, inventory or payroll inside your books, a full accounting app is the better fit. If you mostly need clean records and no surprises at tax time, BIB Pro does that for $29.99 a month.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most affordable bookkeeping software for a small business?

Wave Starter is free with no time limit, and Zoho Books has a free plan for businesses under $50,000 in annual revenue. Paid plans run about $19 to $38 a month in 2026, depending on the bank feeds, invoices and users you need.

How much does QuickBooks Online cost in 2026?

QuickBooks Online Simple Start lists at $38 a month in 2026 before promotions. Higher tiers cost more, and payroll is an add-on. Check Intuit's pricing page, since prices usually change once a year.

Is free bookkeeping software good enough?

For a freelancer or side hustle with simple income and expenses, often yes. The usual limits are no automatic bank feed, caps on users, and no guidance on taxes. Once you have employees, inventory or several bank accounts, a paid plan or a bookkeeper usually saves time.

How much does BIB Pro cost?

BIB Pro costs $29.99 a month or $330 a year. That includes receipt scanning, a mileage log, a running tax set-aside number with New York taxes, bank statement import, a setup call and quarterly check-ins with the London's Tax Services team.

Do I still need an accountant if I use bookkeeping software?

Usually yes, at least at tax time. Software records transactions; it does not decide what is deductible, set quarterly estimates or file your return. Clean books from any software make the accountant's job faster and cheaper.
